CORTEX 4th annual meeting took place online

From 5 to 9 October 2020 CORTEX project partners participated in the 4th annual meeting that took place online due to the sanitary situation.

During the whole week, consortium members presented the results and achievements of the project showing that the CORTEX project is progressing very well and on schedule. Major achievements were the development of a large variety of simulation tools and the conclusive intercomparison of the tools; the implementation, analysis and modelling of unique noise experiments and the good overall agreement between the tools and the experiments; and the development of state of the art signal processing and machine learning techniques, using simulations as training sets.

The first meeting day opened with an overview of the project and was dedicated to work package presentations showcasing the progress made. The second, third and fourth day focused on technical presentations in which the work performed within sub tasks was explained. During the last day of the meeting Christophe Demazière summarised the challenges and difficulties encountered in the project and presented some solutions, defined priorities for the last year of the project and reminded project partners of the importance of collaboration. Separate meetings of the Governing Board, of the Advisory End-User Group and of the CORTEX Management Board took place during this last day. Throughout the meeting, virtual coffee breaks were organised to allow time for informal discussions despite the digital format of the meeting.

Several upcoming workshops were announced:

  • Second workshop on experiments in the research reactors and on the validation of the neutronic models – planned for March/April 2021
  • Hands-on training at the CROCUS reactor – planned for the last week of May 2021
  • Workshop on the demonstration of the methods for reactor noise analysis against plant data – planned for 21 & 22 June 2021

The next CORTEX annual meeting will take place on 23 & 24 June in Sweden or remotely if the sanitary situation requires it.
